An Operating System is the software which communicates with the hardware of a PC and serves as the intermediary between apps and the hardware, including peripheral devices such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run an app, it transmits requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the contact is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). A lot like a personal computer, web servers also use an Operating System that acts as a host for any software installed on them, including script apps or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etcetera. A virtual machine can be set up on a physical one, so you could install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast to the physical server host Operating System.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

The dedicated server plans that we offer come with as many as three different Operating Systems to select from. They are all Linux release - Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian, and not only do they have no license charges, but they’re also regarded as the most stable and safe OSs. We offer three different ones as each of them is backed by a separate community. The packages which you could add on your server are different and this may matter in case you need to install some piece of software with specific requirements regarding the hosting environment. In this light, the hosting Control Panel which you can select for the dedicated server is also determined by the OS that you will pick. You may choose any of the three Operating Systems during the order process, however if needed, we can always install the server once again with a different one upon your request. As an optional service that you could add to the plan at any time, we can update your OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as secure as possible.
